The Pokémon’s story

Smoochum discovers its surroundings with its lips. Very curious, it presses them against all sorts of things to decide what it likes or dislikes. It also pays particular attention to its face: the slightest dirt makes it wash. This demand does not extend to the rest of its body, whose cleanliness seems much less interesting to it. Its exploration and care thus center on its mouth.

A detail worth noticing

Sword highlights a contrast in Smoochum's grooming: it washes its face as soon as it finds it dirty but cares little about the rest of its body. Shield shows how important its lips also are in discovering the world.
