CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Torchic follows its Trainer with still-hesitant steps. Its down and body warmth give this small companion a comforting presence. Yet the fire it keeps inside can also burst out in scorching balls. Its whole character lies in this closeness between apparent fragility and power: the Pokémon seeking to stay beside someone already has the means to defend itself.

A detail worth noticing

Torchic dislikes darkness. Pokémon Emerald explains that it then cannot see its surroundings. This discomfort adds a nuance to its association with fire: possessing a flame does not automatically make it comfortable in the dark.
