CARDEX BACKGROUND
Steelix lives much deeper underground than Onix. As it burrows, it swallows soil containing iron; the Pokédex suggests that this diet may have transformed its body. Underground heat and pressure are thought to have hardened its structure further. Its jaws crush stone while its eyes make out a path in the dim light. Some observations place it more than a kilometre below ground. The account of its origin remains a hypothesis, but its underground lifestyle is written throughout its body.
Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.Pokémon Sword reports another tradition: Steelix is said to be an Onix more than a hundred years old that has become almost as hard as diamond. This idea is presented as a story, not a measurement of the age of observed Steelix. It extends its association with depth and time.
Quoted source text is retained in the card’s printed language so this exact printing can be identified. The CarDex background above is translated into English.
