CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Skrelp resembles withered seaweed and drifts among floating plants. This camouflage hides it from large Pokémon that might attack. It also helps surprise those coming to eat the seaweed: this time, Skrelp does the feeding. A poor swimmer, it sometimes clings to this living scenery rather than struggling against the water. The Pokédex thus shows it as both inconspicuous prey and a hunter exploiting the same illusion.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Sword explains Skrelp's trap: Pokémon coming to eat seaweed discover too late that it is hiding there. Pokémon Ultra Moon specifies that it swims poorly and prefers clinging to plants; in Alola, it is often found near Dhelmise.
