The buds on Abomasnow's back grow when it Mega Evolves, forming enormous columns of ice. They release air so cold that it creates blizzards reaching minus thirty degrees Celsius. In Pokémon X and Y, this transformation improves both its offensive and defensive capabilities, but comes with a reduction in Speed.

In Pokémon X and Y, Mega Abomasnow retains the Snow Warning Ability. If the opponent changed the weather after Abomasnow entered, triggering its Mega Evolution can reactivate that Ability and bring hail back during battle.
