CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Applin settles inside an apple from birth and grows by eating its flesh. The fruit is both shelter and food. When a bird Pokémon approaches, it can pass for an ordinary apple to escape its natural predator. The Pokédex adds that the fruit's flavor affects its evolution. The choice of apple therefore matters far beyond camouflage: it accompanies Applin throughout its growth and shapes the next stage of its life.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Shield connects Applin's evolution with the flavor of the apple in which it grew. Pokémon Sword gives the fruit another role: it lets Applin hide from bird Pokémon by looking like an ordinary apple.
