CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Wurmple lives in forests and feeds on tree sap. It cuts bark with the spikes at the rear of its body, then grips surfaces with its foot pads. Bird Pokémon, especially Swellow, regularly hunt it. When a predator approaches, it turns its spikes toward it and can inject poison. The Pokédex describes small prey well equipped to feed on trunks and defend its escape.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Omega Ruby explains that Wurmple uses its body spikes to open bark and reach sap. Pokémon Alpha Sapphire describes these points as a poisonous defense against Swellow. The same tool therefore serves eating and surviving the hunt.
