CARDEX BACKGROUND
Gloom carries a flower whose pistil can release a very strong smell. This stench intensifies when it feels threatened, but disappears when it is comfortable and safe. The sticky nectar dripping from its mouth can also be mistaken for drool. In the Pokédex, these secretions therefore do more than give it a strange appearance: they accompany its reactions to danger and make approaching it difficult.
Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.Pokémon X states that roughly one person in a thousand enjoys Gloom’s smell, despite its reputation. Pokémon Omega Ruby adds a nuance: when it feels perfectly safe, it stops releasing its stench. Its bad smell is therefore not permanent.
Quoted source text is retained in the card’s printed language so this exact printing can be identified. The CarDex background above is translated into English.
