CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Dhelmise takes shape when seaweed drifting along the ocean floor attaches to ship debris. The anchor and chain give the impression of a metal body, while the Pokédex locates its true body in the plant matter wrapped around them. It ambushes prey by dropping the anchor towards it, then absorbs its life energy. Even Pokémon as large as Wailord may be targeted. Its silhouette thus tells of the union between a wreck and an unsettling marine life form.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

The seaweed forming Dhelmise’s chain can extend for several hundred metres, according to Pokémon Ultra Moon. The same entry explains that it gets along well with Skrelp. The contrast is striking between this companionship and its ambushes against very large prey.
