CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Nidorina lives close to its family and folds its spines down to avoid injuring those near it. It feeds its young by chewing food before giving it to them. When the group is threatened, several individuals gather and respond with ultrasonic cries. Its forehead horn is even said to have grown smaller to make caring for young easier. The Pokédex shows a species whose weapons withdraw or change depending on whether it protects or feeds its family.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Sword suggests that Nidorina's horn became smaller so it could feed its young without hurting them. Pokémon Shield describes the group's collective defense through ultrasound. Caring for young and protecting relatives have therefore shaped different behaviors.
