The role of this Energy

A basic Lightning Energy helps prepare attacks marked with the Lightning symbol. A player attaches it to an Active or Benched Pokémon at a chosen moment, within the usual limit of one Energy card attached from the hand per turn. The Sun & Moon—Ultra Prism booklet describes Lightning Pokémon as able, depending on their attacks, to recover discarded Energy or Paralyse an opponent. These possibilities illustrate the type's style; they are not automatic effects of this basic card.

A detail worth noticing

The official booklet links two very different ideas to the Lightning type: retrieving Energy from the discard pile and leaving an opponent Paralysed. A basic Lightning Energy does neither on its own. The Pokémon card's text explains when these effects become possible.
