CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Rattata can build its nest almost anywhere, even in an unsanitary environment. Its caution never leaves it while sleeping: its ears continue to monitor surrounding sounds. Its incisors grow throughout its life and must be worn down regularly on wood or whatever it finds. If they become too long, it can no longer eat. This need explains some of its constant activity and the marks it leaves near homes.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Sun notes that incisors left unworn can prevent Rattata from feeding. Pokémon Omega Ruby describes its ears still moving during sleep. Its two most visible habits, gnawing and staying alert, therefore meet very different needs.
