CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Salandit inhabits volcanoes and dry rocky regions. It heats liquid from its venom sacs with the flame on its tail to produce toxic gas. Its sweet scent attracts certain Bug-type Pokémon, then the gas dazes them before it attacks. It may also approach discreetly from behind and immobilise prey. The Pokédex thus describes hunting based on heat, chemistry and cunning, rather than a simple frontal attack.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Moon explains that Salandit’s gas works poorly on Spinda, which is already naturally unsteady. Pokémon Sword explains how it makes the gas by heating its secretions. This counterexample shows that apparently susceptible prey does not always react as expected.

Description from the source

Its venom sacs produce a fluid that this Pokémon then heats up with the flame in its tail. This process creates Salandit's poisonous gas.
