CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Maschiff tries to look threatening by constantly furrowing its brow. The effect is not always what it intends: even crying children may laugh at its face, according to the Pokédex. Yet its jaws and fangs are powerful enough to break rocks. A thick layer of fat also protects it. Its appearance may thus raise a smile while revealing nothing of its body's toughness or the strength of its bite.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Maschiff's scowling face is an attempt at intimidation, Pokémon Scarlet says, yet it can make a child laugh. Pokémon Violet supplies a counterpoint to this scene: its fangs and jaws can crush rocks.
