The Pokémon’s story

Slowking owes its intelligence to the bite of the Shellder attached to its head. The toxins are said to have awakened mental abilities that Slowpoke had not yet shown. It tries to solve puzzles every day and remains calm when faced with problems. Yet some entries say a brilliant idea immediately slips away; if Shellder leaves, it supposedly even forgets its research. The Pokédex makes this wisdom remarkable but closely tied to its companion.

Pokémon Ultra Moon tells of intelligence contests between Slowking and Oranguru that often end in a tie. Pokémon Omega Ruby gives it an unexpected limitation: Shellder leaving its head would make it forget everything it has learned.
