CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Ivysaur carries a bud on its back that grows as it receives light and food. Its legs strengthen to support the weight. It readily spends time in the sun as blooming approaches, while a fragrance begins to emerge from the bulb. Eventually, this growth makes standing on its hind legs difficult. The Pokédex thus connects each change in posture with the development of the plant this Pokémon nurtures on its own body.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Omega Ruby explains that Ivysaur's legs grow stronger to carry its bud. Pokémon Sword adds that the oversized bulb prevents it from standing on its hind legs. The plant on its back therefore directly changes the way it holds itself.
