CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Sandslash climbs trees with its claws, then may drop onto prey with its spines raised. These points break easily but regrow quickly, sometimes by the next day. Their hardness varies with its habitat's dryness. The Pokédex also shows a less combative side: it drops Berries for Sandshrew waiting below the tree. Its armor, movement and care for the smaller Pokémon form a richer portrait than defense alone.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Sun says Sandslash's broken spines can be used as tools for digging soil. Pokémon Shield shows it dropping Berries to Sandshrew. Its claws therefore serve more than attacking or climbing.
