The Pokémon’s story

Ancient records call Lunala the being that calls the moon. It continually absorbs surrounding light to turn it into energy, then can take on the appearance of the full moon and illuminate the night. The Pokédex also mentions breaches through which it brings unknown creatures or forces. Its origin is told cautiously: some entries describe it as a mysterious being said to come from another world.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Shield explains that Lunala gathers light to take the form of the full moon. Pokémon Ultra Moon credits it with opening passages to other dimensions. Its accounts thus connect a visible phenomenon in the sky with a power to cross between worlds.
