The Pokémon’s story

Houndoom's howl has long frightened humans, who have mistaken it for the call of the grim reaper. Yet it also lives in an organised pack: its members choose their leader through battle, and the leader's swept-back horns set it apart. Its unsettling image from afar therefore conceals very real relationships among its kind. The voice that seems to announce a bad omen belongs to a Pokémon attentive to each member's place.

A detail worth noticing

Houndoom can breathe poison-laced flames to finish off its prey, then share it with the other members of its pack. Ultra Sun thus shows a hunter whose fire also helps feed the group. This social dimension can easily be overlooked behind its sinister reputation and impressive attacks.
