CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Scraggy pulls its loose skin up around its neck to cushion blows. It lives in groups and readily provokes those who meet its gaze with abrupt headbutts. The weight of its head sometimes throws it off balance, without diminishing its boldness. Within its group, longer skin commands greater respect. The Pokédex thus shows a physical defence that has also become a sign of rank, while its growth signals an approaching evolution.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Moon connects the length of Scraggy’s skin with the respect it commands. Pokémon Shield states that skin which can no longer stretch signals that evolution is approaching. These “baggy trousers” protect its body, but also reveal its status and development.
