CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Blacephalon is an Ultra Beast from an Ultra Wormhole. It moves toward people with a swaying motion, then explodes its own head. The surprise lets it exploit its opponents' confusion to drain their vitality. The Pokédex does not describe this explosion as its end: it forms part of its attack method. Its winding approach and sudden flash create a two-stage tactic whose spectacle diverts attention from the real danger.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Sun describes Blacephalon's head exploding after it approaches people. Pokémon Ultra Moon specifies what follows: the Ultra Beast exploits the surprise to steal the enemy's vitality. The detonation therefore serves its hunt, not merely its appearance.
