The Pokémon’s story

Mesprit is called the Being of Emotion. According to a Pokédex tradition, its flight supposedly taught humans to know joy and sorrow. Another story says its body rests at the bottom of a lake while its spirit flies above the water. These accounts are not presented as confirmed observations. They give Mesprit a distinctive place in legends: connecting people's inner lives with a Pokémon imagined to be hidden beneath a lake.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon White recounts that humans supposedly discovered joy and sorrow when Mesprit took flight. Alpha Sapphire reports another belief: its spirit is said to leave its sleeping body at the bottom of a lake to fly above the surface.
