CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Barboach searches river mud with whiskers capable of sensing smells and tastes. A thin, slippery layer protects its body and lets it escape a bird's talons. It also makes Barboach very difficult for humans to grasp, prompting occasional catching contests. The Pokédex reports a legend that it was born from mud but mainly describes an inhabitant well adapted to murky bottoms.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Moon credits Barboach's whiskers with detecting tastes and smells. Pokémon Ultra Sun describes its slimy skin letting it slip from a predator's talons. The same muddy bottoms where it seeks food therefore also offer a means of escape.
