The Pokémon’s story

Sandile crosses the desert almost entirely buried in sand, leaving only its eyes and nose visible. This warm layer helps maintain its temperature and conceals it from predators. It can watch for prey from this position, but the Pokédex also describes it as an unskilled hunter capable of feeding on carrion. On cold nights, it burrows deeper still to sleep. Its entire life seems governed by changes in sand and heat.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Moon nicknames Sandile the “Cleaner of the Desert” because it eats carrion. Pokémon Shield highlights the surprising strength of its hind legs, which let it move as though swimming through sand. Its small size does not reveal all its abilities.
