CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Lileep lived in warm seas long before present-day Pokémon. Restored from a fossil, it remains attached to rocks on the seabed. Its powerful suckers hold it in place despite the surge. Long ago, its body blended with seaweed: it waited for prey to approach, then surrounded it with petal-like tentacles. Its stillness is therefore no weakness. It is part of patient hunting from a position that waves cannot wrench it away from.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Sword places Lileep's seas about a hundred million years in the past. Pokémon Ultra Moon explains that its suckers attach it so firmly to rocks that even rough seas cannot carry it away. Pokémon Shield describes its hunting tentacles.
