CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Toxicroak approaches an opponent in leaps, then strikes with the claws on its fists. Their toxin makes even a scratch dangerous. Before a confrontation, its croaking stirs the poison stored beneath its throat and increases its effectiveness. When it defeats prey, it may give another cry, this time in victory. The Pokédex thus connects voice, movement and venom in this Pokémon: each prepares or accompanies the next attack.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

For Toxicroak, croaking is more than an audible signal. Pokémon Black describes the poison beneath its throat being shaken by this cry, making it more effective. Pokémon Shield also draws a connection between the species and Seismitoad, without treating it as a simple variant.
