CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

When Honedge evolves, it doubles and becomes Doublade, a pair of swords able to communicate telepathically. The two blades coordinate attacks and parries at a pace that exceeds even experienced swordsmen. They may also clash together to intimidate an opponent before lunging at it. The Pokédex emphasises their synchronisation more than the strength of a single weapon. Doublade acts as a duo in which each movement prepares the other’s next action.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Y states that even seasoned swordsmen struggle to parry Doublade’s coordinated assaults. Pokémon Sword adds that its blades make metallic noises to intimidate. Their telepathic communication therefore does more than support striking: it also sustains a threatening display.
