The role of this Energy

Capture Energy supplies one Colorless Energy to the attached Pokémon. When attached from your hand, it also lets you search your deck for a Basic Pokémon and put it onto your Bench, then shuffle. The attachment prepares a Pokémon already in play while bringing in a new partner. Its text does not permit searching for just any card: the target is a Basic Pokémon. It also describes a precise moment, when the Energy arrives from your hand.

A detail worth noticing

Both verified printings of Capture Energy require shuffling the deck after the search. This action is part of the printed effect even though the Basic Pokémon found goes directly onto the Bench. The card then continues to supply one Colorless Energy.
