CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Tentacruel hunts with eighty tentacles that extend and retract like a net. It weakens prey with toxins and uses the red orbs on its head to emit ultrasound. Those same orbs flash when it wants to warn its kind. The Pokédex describes a sea hunter whose lights are not decorative: they play a part in capture and group communication.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Moon describes Tentacruel's red orbs as a signaling system between its kind. Pokémon Sword warns that an intense glow announces ultrasound. Watching these orbs can therefore reveal a social alert or the start of an attack.

With 80 tentacles for ensnaring victims, it prevents escape until the prey is weakened by poison.

Attacks

Tentacle Strike

Search your opponent's discard pile for up to 2 Energy cards and attach them to any of your opponent's Pokémon in any way you like. For each Energy card attached in this way, this attack does 20 damage to that Pokémon. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.)

Dangerous Poison

Cost: Water · Colorless · Colorless

Damage: 60

If Tentacruel has less Energy attached to it than the Defending Pokémon, the Defending Pokémon is now Paralyzed and Poisoned.
