CARDEX BACKGROUND
The Pokémon’s story
Claydol resembles a clay figurine made by a very ancient civilisation. According to stories, a mysterious light brought it to life. It moves by levitating and can fire beams from its arms. Its material nevertheless has a surprising weakness: water is said to make it melt, so it surrounds itself with psychic energy on rainy days. The Pokédex thus combines an uncertain archaeological origin with a very present-day way of protecting itself from the elements.
Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.A detail worth noticing
Pokémon Ultra Sun credits Claydol with psychic protection against rain, because its body is said to melt on contact with water. Pokémon Alpha Sapphire places its model among figurines from a civilisation more than twenty thousand years old. Its apparent solidity therefore conceals a material fragility.
