CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Clauncher concentrates gas in its right claw and detonates it to fire a powerful water jet, strong enough to break rock at close range. It also uses this propulsion to move, though it struggles to swim straight. Its claws can fall off in battle and regrow; meanwhile, it hides. The Pokédex describes a weapon serving movement and leaving its owner vulnerable when missing.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Moon notes that Clauncher propels itself with water from its right claw but cannot swim straight. Pokémon Shield describes the internal gas used to fire at enemies. Its cannon mechanism therefore serves escape as much as attack.
