The Pokémon’s story

Ekans moves silently toward birds' nests to devour the eggs. Its jaw can open wide enough to swallow prey larger than itself, after which it coils up to digest. It also sleeps in a spiral with its head raised so that it can react quickly to danger. Its length increases with age. The Pokédex portrays a discreet hunter that stays alert even when it seems to be resting.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Moon says Ekans can choke by swallowing bird Pokémon Eggs too quickly. Pokémon Omega Ruby describes its sleeping position, with its head always ready to rise. Its feeding method therefore carries a risk that its usual caution does not eliminate.
