The Pokémon’s story

Starly crosses fields and forests in large flocks looking for Bug-type Pokémon. Alone it remains fragile; living in a group gives it a better chance against danger. That does not prevent quarrels among flock members. Despite its small size, each beats its wings vigorously to keep up with the others. The Pokédex describes a noisy species whose collective strength coexists with frequent squabbles.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Black explains that Starly live together because they are weak alone. Pokémon Y places their flocks in fields and forests where they hunt insects. Gathering therefore serves movement as much as reducing vulnerability.
