CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Garbodor swallows rubbish and turns it into toxic gases or liquids. The composition of its poison changes with its meals, making its secretions difficult to predict. In battle, it immobilises prey with one arm before spraying a harmful substance. In Alola, its population is said to have declined after Grimer arrived, and the remaining individuals are said to be more robust against Muk. Its story therefore follows that of waste, rivalries and the environments it settles in.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Sword explains that Garbodor’s toxins vary with the waste it ingests. Pokémon Moon relates that Grimer’s arrival in Alola reduced its population. The Pokédex thus connects its body chemistry with its diet, and its abundance with the presence of other Pokémon.
