CARDEX BACKGROUND

The role of this Energy

This older Darkness Energy provides Darkness and can add ten damage to an attack that hits its target after Weakness and Resistance are applied. It also carries a restriction less obvious from its name: at the end of every turn, a damage counter goes onto its holder if that Pokémon is neither Darkness type nor has Dark in its name. The card rewards some pairings and penalizes others, even when no attack is made that turn.

Background on this Special Energy’s effect; the printed text, edition and finish of each card remain distinct.

A detail worth noticing

The end-of-turn counter on these printings concerns a non-Darkness holder unless its name includes Dark. It is not an initial attachment cost: the text applies it at each turn's end when the condition is met.

Printed card text — English

Quoted source text is retained in the card’s printed language so this exact printing can be identified. The CarDex background above is translated into English.

Printed card effect

If the Pokémon Darkness Energy is attached to damages the Defending Pokémon (after applying Weakness and Resistance), the attack does 10 more damage to the Defending Pokémon. At the end of every turn, put 1 damage counter on the Pokémon Darkness Energy is attached to, unless it's Darkness or has Dark in its name. Darkness Energy provides Darkness Energy. (Doesn't count as a basic Energy card.)
