The story behind this Trainer card

Counter Gain reduces the attack costs of the Pokémon carrying it when you have more Prize cards remaining than your opponent. The reduction corresponds to one Colorless Energy. It therefore depends on the difference between players rather than a permanent equipment bonus. If Prize counts are equal, the condition is not met. The Tool thus helps its bearer in a specific situation of being behind on Prizes.

A detail worth noticing

Counter Gain removes one Colorless requirement from an attack cost, not a type requirement of your choice. Its effect also requires a strictly higher remaining Prize count for its owner. A tie between players therefore does not trigger the reduction.
