CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Numel carries a store of burning magma in its hump. While the weather stays dry, this heat accompanies its movements and fuels its fire abilities. Rain changes everything: the magma cools, solidifies and weighs its body down enough to slow it. The Pokédex describes it as slow to react, even when struck, but very sensitive to hunger. Its apparent sluggishness therefore conceals a body whose behaviour depends as much on weather as on its internal reserve.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Alpha Sapphire estimates Numel’s internal magma at 1,200°C. When it gets wet, this magma hardens and the Pokémon becomes much heavier. Rain therefore does more than hinder its flames: it directly changes its mobility.
