CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Volcarona spreads its six wings and sheds burning scales when it fights. Its fire has inspired opposing stories: some attribute fires to it, while others relate that it warmed beings deprived of sunlight by volcanic ash. Ancient murals even depict it as a fire deity. The Pokédex does not settle all these traditions; it shows how the same radiance can become a threat or a source of help, depending on who tells the story.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Black reports a legend in which Volcarona’s fire is said to have replaced the sun hidden by volcanic ash. Pokémon Sword preserves two interpretations of its burning scales: they are said either to cause fires or to save those suffering from the cold.
