CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Haunter prefers darkness, where it can approach unseen. It sometimes lures a person towards it, then extends its gaseous tongue to steal their life energy. Pokédex entries warn that its icy lick can leave its victim weakened for a long time. Its fondness for night has an unexpected consequence, however: it is said to have become rare in large cities that are constantly lit. Human lighting therefore changes even its hunting grounds.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Moon attributes Haunter’s increasing rarity in large cities to their permanent lighting. Pokémon X gives a more subtle clue to its presence: the feeling of being watched in the dark. The first detail describes its environment, the second how it might be noticed.
