The story behind this Trainer card

Erika's Invitation reveals the opponent's hand so that a Basic Pokémon can be taken from it and put onto its owner's Bench. If that entry into play occurs, the same Pokémon is then sent to the Active Spot. The Supporter links two conditional movements, using a resource the opponent still held rather than a target already on their field.

A detail worth noticing

Erika's Invitation does not let you freely choose a different Pokémon after the Bench placement. The Pokémon just put into play by the effect must be the one that becomes Active. Without that initial placement, the second step is not granted.
