CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

One entry recounts that a man punished for recording a king's misdeeds on wooden tablets supposedly left a lingering grudge. Wrapped in dead leaves, this is said to have become Wo-Chien. The story gives an origin to its plantlike body without being presented as a direct observation. Its presence has a more concrete effect in the Pokédex: it removes plants' life force, quickly withering forests and making nearby fields barren.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Scarlet connects Wo-Chien's origin with wooden tablets bearing a king's faults. Pokémon Violet describes the extent of its power over vegetation: it drains its energy and can leave a forest withered or a field unproductive.
