CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Dusclops is hollow beneath its ghostly exterior. It opens its mouth to suck in anything that comes too close, while its single eye can stare at and hypnotize an opponent. Legends compare its interior to a black hole from which nothing escapes. The Pokédex also reports that it seeks out and swallows will-o'-the-wisps, without explaining what becomes of them. Perhaps its greatest menace lies in that unanswered question: its body's appearance reveals nothing about what it contains.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Shield says Dusclops swallows will-o'-the-wisps but leaves their fate unknown. Pokémon Alpha Sapphire describes its eye as a tool for hypnosis. The mystery of its empty body thus coexists with a very specific method of capture.
