The Pokémon’s story
Natu's wings are not yet strong enough for flight. It moves by hopping and climbs trees to reach the buds it eats. It can flap its wings to reach a high branch without truly taking flight. When someone approaches, its fixed gaze seems to study them at length before it bounds away. The Pokédex describes a young bird whose skill in trees compensates for its inability to fly.

Pokémon Ultra Sun emphasizes that Natu reaches the highest branches despite being unable to fly. Pokémon Shield explains that its wings remain insufficiently developed. Its leaps are therefore more than play: they replace an aerial ability it still lacks.
