CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

For Bulbasaur, growing up is an adventure for two. The seed it carries from birth develops alongside it. When it dozes in the sun, this plant reserve benefits from the light too. Its back thus tells a story of shared growth: the small Pokémon moves through life with a plant that accompanies it long before becoming a flower.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Bulbasaur’s seed also acts as a food store. The Pokémon Shield entry explains that the young Pokémon draws on the nutrients it contains to grow. This detail gives a concrete function to that instantly recognisable silhouette.
