CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Shieldon lived in ancient jungles and fed on plants. Its armored face helped it dig up roots and probably discouraged predators. Recovered fossils often show this body part without damage; some entries even state that only its face has been found. Despite this imposing defense, Hisui's accounts describe it as calm and disinclined to fight. There, it polishes its face against trees and rocks.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Moon states that known Shieldon fossils reveal only its face. Pokémon Ultra Sun explains that it used it to dig up roots. Pokémon Legends: Arceus adds an everyday action: rubbing its mask against trees and stones to polish it.
