CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Azumarill spends much of its day in water, where its long ears detect movement despite the current. It can hold enough air in its lungs to stay submerged for a very long time. Yet its bubbles serve more than its own needs: when it sees a Pokémon in difficulty, it may make bubbles for it to breathe. In fine weather, it returns to the surface and floats in the sun between explorations of rivers.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Shield describes Azumarill surrounding Azurill playing in the river with air bubbles. Pokémon Alpha Sapphire presents the same action as help for a drowning Pokémon. An ability often associated with battle thus becomes a means of protection.
