PS5: enable Console Sharing and Offline Play
If several people use your PS5, Console Sharing and Offline Play helps define access to eligible downloaded games. Configure it from the purchasing account, then check the chosen game from the profile that will actually play it.

Before you start
PS5 and the PlayStation account that owns the relevant purchases. The setting can be enabled on one PS5 at a time per account. Prepare a downloaded game and access to the account for the check.
1. Choose the shared household console
Start with the PS5 used in common and note which account purchased the game chosen for your test. This prevents changing settings on an account that does not own the content.
Enabling sharing lets other users of this PS5 access eligible downloaded purchases and certain PlayStation Plus benefits. The first PS5 used to sign in may already have the feature enabled.
2. Enable sharing in Settings
- Using the relevant account, open Settings → Users and Accounts → Other.
- Select Console Sharing and Offline Play → Enable.
- If another PS5 already uses this activation, disable sharing on that previous console before switching.
Read the displayed state instead of repeatedly toggling it. Tell other users before changing the activated console so they understand why their access may change.
3. Check from the intended player’s profile
Return to the profile of the person who will use the game and launch the title you selected. Record the exact outcome: normal launch, padlock, purchase request or connection message. This is more useful than changing several settings before observing a result.
Expected result: that user can launch eligible content. Offline sharing does not turn a game that requires online servers into a self-contained offline game.
4. Understand which benefits remain personal
PlayStation lists online multiplayer and already downloaded monthly games among shareable benefits, with catalogue access depending on the subscription tier. Cloud storage and claiming monthly games on another account are not shared. Plus discounts do not become purchasing entitlements for every profile.
For a child account, age restrictions and parental controls still apply. Consult the official benefits list before treating a limitation as a malfunction.
Explain what each user can actually access. A specific expectation, such as launching a named game, is easier to check than a vague promise to share the entire subscription.
If the game remains inaccessible
Check the purchasing account and activation. For Plus titles, also check subscription validity and whether the game is still included. If activation fails, inspect PlayStation service status and system updates.
If you no longer have the previous PS5, remote deactivation of all devices is available but limited to once every six months. Read the official procedure before taking that broader action.
Keep the exact message and first-test result for support. Do not immediately buy a game again just to remove a padlock whose cause is still unknown.
