R36S black screen: distinguish power, boot and display-profile problems
Distinguish no power, a black screen after the logo and a display-profile problem; start with reversible checks before another flash.

R36S with dArkOSRE-R36 after installation or first boot; identify the hardware profile.
What you need
Required — Charged console and system card; a computer and card reader only if diagnosis leads to an image check.

Describe the symptom precisely
| Observation | What it suggests | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| No LED or sound | Check power or startup | The card is definitely corrupted |
| LED, sound or responses present, but black screen | Possible display chain, profile or DTB issue | A specific panel |
| Logo, then black screen | Partial boot, configuration or storage issue | A definite hardware fault |
| Black screen only after a new flash | Image, checksum, profile or first boot | A definitely incompatible motherboard |
Checks without changing the card
Record LEDs, sound, backlight, any vibration and button response. Allow official first boot to finish, approximately two to three minutes in the observed guide. Do not immediately switch off a console that is initialising.
Remove unnecessary accessories. Do not change several elements at once.
Power and startup
To retry first boot, remove TF2, leave only the system card and do not connect the charger, following the dArkOSRE guide. Use a sufficiently charged battery, then wait for initialisation to finish.
If no LED lights up, first check charging and the button; a DTB does not explain a complete absence of power.
MicroSD card and image
Check that the image comes from the official release, its checksum matches, writing targeted the correct card and the tool finished without error. Test microSD health separately if it produces errors.
Do not format the original card or repeatedly reflash the only copy of your data.
Panel and DTB
Compare the motherboard identifier and panel with the dArkOSRE matrix. On Windows, revisit SELECT MODEL; on macOS/Linux, check that files from the exact folder were copied to the BOOT root.
Documentation mentions a possible Panel 9 case after a black screen, but the symptom alone cannot establish it. Use the identification page.
When to return to flashing
Reflash only if the checksum was wrong, writing failed, or an incorrect profile was applied and the official procedure requires starting over. The installation guide contains the full steps; they are not repeated here.
Suspected hardware fault and when to stop
If a verified card with the exact profile produces no display despite consistent boot signs, or the device is damaged, stop software tests. A ribbon cable, screen, port or motherboard may be involved.
Keep the original card and diagnostic observations, then contact the seller or a competent repairer to examine the screen, ribbon cable and power supply. Open the console only with a suitable hardware procedure and the ability to perform it.
