Before adding funds: check that the content is still available for your account, its price and your existing balance. Add only what you need: Sony states that funds added to the wallet are non-refundable.

Before starting

  • Use the PlayStation account associated with the PS3 or PS Vita on which you will make the purchase.
  • Available payment methods can vary with the account’s country.
  • A child account does not have a wallet: the family manager must fund their own wallet and check the child account’s spending limit.
  • If you choose a gift card or top-up code, check that it matches your PlayStation account’s region.

Add funds from a computer or mobile device

  1. Sign in to PlayStation Store with the PlayStation account you use on your PS3 or PS Vita.
  2. Open your profile or payment management.
  3. Choose the option to add funds to your wallet.
  4. Select an available payment method, check the amount needed for your intended purchase, then confirm the transaction.

You can also fund your wallet from a PS4 or PS5, depending on the options available for your account and country.

Use a PlayStation Store gift card

A PlayStation Store gift card or top-up code credits your wallet when you enter its 12-digit code. The code must match your PlayStation account’s region and can be used only once.

  1. After checking content availability, price and the receiving account, buy a gift card or code matching that account’s region.
  2. Sign in to PlayStation Store on a computer, mobile device, PS4 or PS5.
  3. Open the redeem-code option, then enter the 12-digit code.
  4. Check that your wallet has been credited before returning to the PS3 or PS Vita.

Once the balance has been added, open PlayStation Store on the relevant console and use the wallet to pay for content that is still available.

Before purchasing, check: the account signed in on the other device is the one you use on the console, and the gift card or top-up code matches its region.

Why do direct payments no longer work on PS3 and PS Vita?

Since 27 October 2021, credit cards, debit cards and PayPal can no longer be used directly to buy content or add funds through PlayStation Store on PS3 or PS Vita. You therefore need to fund your wallet first from another device or with a PlayStation Store gift card.

Having a card or PayPal saved to your account does not restore direct payments on the PS3 or PS Vita Store.

When is PlayStation Store closing on PS3 and PS Vita?

Sony has announced that PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita will close in July 2027 in most countries covered by that announcement. Some regions have a different schedule, particularly for PS3. Check the information for your account’s country before planning a purchase.

After closure in your region, new purchases of games, add-ons and other content will no longer be possible through PlayStation Store on PS3 or PS Vita. Sony says that downloading previously purchased content should remain available for the foreseeable future, without promising unlimited availability.

The general announcement does not specify an exact day in July 2027. If you want content that is still available, check the date applicable to your region, its price and your account balance before adding funds; avoid funding your wallet speculatively, because the funds are non-refundable.

Troubleshoot a purchase that fails despite an available balance

If a purchase fails despite sufficient funds, first check the signed-in account, content availability in your region and the exact amount requested.

If you used a code, check that it matches the account’s region and that the correct wallet was credited. If the error continues, consult PlayStation Support; removing saved payment methods is not presented here as an official procedure.
